Generation 1st Website
My Role:
Design and Development
Background:
Generation 1st, a non-profit founded by the Executive Vice President of Marcus & Millichap and his wife, sought a website that harmonizes with the Marcus & Millichap branding while maintaining its own distinct identity. The main focus of Generation 1st is providing a comprehensive 6-week financial literacy program, providing invaluable guidance and mentorship to first-generation college students.

Final Design
The Process
Gen1st asked if I could find a list of influential, first generation college graduates and use their photos on the homepage in a visually appealing way. Finding a solid list of individuals was simple but the challenging part was finding non-copyrighted photos that were good quality. Some of the photos needed finessing in photoshop and I think they turned out nicely.
I went through several different options to display all the photos. Gen1st wanted the titles of each individual displayed, so captions also needed to be incorporated. I decided to have a slideshow with three photos displayed at a time in order to have everything fit without needing to scroll. The photos stop if one is clicked, in case a user wants to spend more time looking at each photo. There are also left/right arrows and dots that indicate the number of images. I set the speed to slide in 5 second intervals. The speed is meant to provide the user enough time to comprehend what's on the screen, while also moving fast enough to capture the users attention to view all the images.
Design Touches

For the interior pages, I didn't want to copy the Marcus & Millichap Fellowship website exactly so I added relevant icons where appropriate and created a page divider using their logo. The Marcus & Millichap site design had a lot of overlays on their images so I opted to not do that for the Gen1st site.
I looked for stock images that depicted a diverse range of college-aged students and corporate professionals to convey who Gen1st is trying to reach and what they are striving to offer them.
Gen1st opted to use Monday.com and DonorBox for their application and donation forms. So, I had to use css to try and match the embedded forms with the Gen1st brand identity.
Finally, I optimized the design for various screens.
